Rethinking Bigness in Houston, TX
While Bigness designates an architecture large enough that it becomes wholly about the interior, this large scale project rethinks the practice of Bigness of that which can responds to its context and enter into an urban dialogue. Architectural techniques including gestural form, perforated facades, and stretched, intermediary program spaces create a building that necessarily interacts with its exterior environment. The four main programs sit at opposing site edges to define a courtyard and interactive space between. As much as the building’s exterior defines the constraints of its interior, Contextual Bigness defines its site and exterior envelope as a result of its interiors to create a dialogue with the city form the inside out.
